We were on the way to a friend's place and had to stop at costco for my mom's final shopping (the vitamin orders she got weight more than 30kg already!). I don't think it's a good idea to bring the baby to the store now with the threaten of swine flu, so we waited in my company which is very close by.

What amazes me most is not the beauty of this park, but the fact that I am not aware of this place all these years I've been here. Yet it's not surprising at all, for NONE of the people I talked to knows this little gem in the city. Is it because the valley is too big for us to get to know it in more detail, or is it because we kind of limited ourselves to only the things we are familiar with?

牛刀小試的結果, 還真不錯呢! 寶寶沒有哭鬧--只有在車停下來等紅燈時會很精準地在三秒內開始哼哼嗨嗨, 但一起動就靜下來了。 光線太強, 一照到陽光眼睛就猛地瞇起來的模樣實在可愛, 不過還是儘量不要讓他浸在陽光裡, 所以照起相來小朋友的臉幾乎都是在陰影中。 因此不論是坐推車還是抱著, 要拍照都頗難, 但陽光大好春風和暖繁花盛開的明豔中, 讓我很想鼓吹大家都帶著小朋友去留影幾場記憶中會永遠繽紛的童年色彩呢。

雖然去年說了不是很愛這花, 可看著看著, 覺得這花還蠻有味道的呢! 顏色精緻, 長相標緻, 忍不住還是一朵一朵拍下來。

又是煙花三月的春暖花開時節。 今年因為生活作息上的改變, 既無能到街上看人行道上的桃李爭春, 也無緣一睹油菜花(應該是芥末花?)滿地金燦的絢麗, 更別提遠方的果樹花開, 和滿山遍野的野花恣意盛開。 不甘寂寞的結果(好想快快回到步道上喔!), 就來逛花園吧!

搭火車總會讓人想到遠行與航向未知的浪漫--想像中尤其會有歐洲的色彩: 延伸的平行軌道會載我們到迷人的鄉間小鎮或具特色的山中村落。 不過這在美國就不適用了... 一百多年很難發展出什麼特色, 窮苦與暴力中走來的礦業山城也很難長出迷人的面貌吧。 (這算不算是一種歧視呢?)

火車離開市區之後便慢慢爬上山, 一路傍著Animas River走, 有時近在水邊, 有時則在河水切出的峽谷上方。 Animas River是Colorado境內少數幾條沒有被人工轉向的河流, 是熱門的fly fishing地點。 因為冬天氣候溫和, 所以一年四季皆宜。 它從San Juan Mountains流出之後, 在Silverton流入Animas Canyon, 到了Durango之後繼續南流, 而後在New Mexico的Farmington附近匯入San Juan River (San Juan則在流經New Mexico跟Utah之後, 於Lake Powell匯入Colorado River), 是Colorado River流域的一部份。

Durango是個小小鎮, 人口約15500人左右, 是由鐵路公司Denver & Rio Grande Railway(D&RG)在1880年9月成立的。 他們在此蓋了個車站以應San Juan礦區的需要。 鐵路本身則在1881年八月拉到這裡, 接著拉到Silverton的鐵路在同年秋天開工, 只用了九個月就完工了。 一開始它是用來運San Juan Mountains出產的金銀礦, (據估計有價值3億的貴重金屬由這條鐵路線運輸過), 但是很快地, 因為一路上風景優美, 載客也成了它的業務之一。 歷經126年, 這條鐵道沒有間斷地營運至今--當然, 礦業早就沒落, 現在是純粹當觀光鐵道, 運載旅客欣賞這一路的高山流水。 我們來得晚了一點, 沒有趕上八月初慶祝125週年的活動。 (嗯, 在Mesa Verde也沒趕上慶祝國家公園成立一百年的活動)。
